Review: an orchestra rediscovers a forgotten symphony

The manuscript sat in a library archive for a hundred years. On Saturday the Calder Philharmonic gave it what may be its first complete performance.

The symphony is uneven, its finale overlong, but its slow movement is among the most affecting music heard in the hall this season.

The orchestra will record the work next spring.
