Three public hospitals have begun testing software that listens to consultations and drafts clinical notes for doctors to review and sign.
Doctors taking part say they spend less time typing and more time looking at patients. Every note must be checked and approved by a clinician before it enters the medical record.
The questions regulators are asking
Health regulators want to know how often the drafts contain errors, who is responsible when a mistake slips through, and how patients are asked for consent before a recording starts.
“The tool writes the first draft. The doctor is still the author.”
The trial will run for twelve months, with results published independently.
